Toronto’s Beacon launches direct India Bill Pay for Canadian immigrants
NEW DELHI, INDIA (February 4, 2025) – Beacon, a Toronto-based fintech firm focused on financial services for immigrants, has launched Beacon India Bill Pay, a first-of-its-kind tool that enables users in Canada to directly pay bills in India from their Beacon Money account. The new service is now publicly available, marking a significant milestone in cross-border financial management.
The feature addresses a common challenge for many Indian immigrants who continue to have financial obligations in their home country. Studies show that 60% of remittances to India are used for family maintenance, including household expenses, utility bills, and loan payments. Until now, immigrants have had to navigate complex processes, costly intermediary services, or Non-Resident Indian (NRI) accounts to manage these payments.
With this launch, Beacon becomes the first North American company to integrate with Bharat Connect (formerly Bharat Bill Payment System, BBPS), India’s national bill payment infrastructure. This allows users to pay over 20,000 Indian billers securely while remaining compliant with the Reserve Bank of India’s financial policies.
